I'm anerican..let me ask you, how do you type all those letters. Aren't there 2,00 letters in the Chinese Alphabet? How many keys on the keyboard do you have?
for Joe - You know, even though I'm a native Chinese but I really don't know how many letters there are in Chinese alphabets :p But it isn't that amazing like you thought to type all these Chinese characters. First we use just exactly the same keyboard like what you/any American will use, the difference is we have a special software to type the Chinese characters. The software I'm using is NJStar Communicator, which is a software that I can use to type either Chinese, Japanese or Korean. One thing that is confusing though is the way you can use to type these Chinese characters, there is different input ways. The way I'm using is the simpliest one, where I just key in the pronunciation and the software itself will pop up different chinese character selections and I will choose the right one/the one I want. Let's say I wanna type the word "horse", which is pronounced as "ma" in Chinese, so I use the keyboard and type "m" and "a", the Chinese characters with pronunciation "ma" then will pop up. Incase you don't know, in Chinese you can have the same pronunciation word but different meaning. Such as the "horse" I want is 马,but "mom" 妈 also pronounced the same. I just have to pick the one I want from the pop-up list.
There is other way to input them, but I never learn them. Like my friend, "Joyce memory" is using the different input way than mine, and she is typing the traditional Chinese characters while I'm typing the simplified Chinese characters. If you wanna know how she does it, you can go ahead ask her :) There is other softwares on the market that you can use to type Chinese too. I think you can find some free ones for Linux on internet, but not sure about Windows, never try it before.
One question though, how did you bump into my blog and how do you know it's Chinese? Do you know how to read Chinese? As I know lots of American they can't tell the difference between Chinese or Japanese :p If you have more questions don't hesitate to ask me, cause I have been always answer there kind of questions for my husband, and his family are Americans too :)
